It is an acute respiratory illness of young children resulting from inflammation of small airways and characterized by wheezing. Respiratory cynstial virus is the principle agent.

Clinical manifestation:

Rhinorrhea,sneezing,cough,low grade fever, followed in several days by rapid breathing and wheezing.

 Physical examination:

Dyspnea,cyanosis,poor air entry bilateraly,bilateral rhonchi.


1. History.
2. clinical finding.
3. chest x-ray(see hyper inflated chest with any patch could appear).
4. respiratory cynstial virus may be identified on nasopharyngeal secretion by culture or antigen assay.

Treatment: depend on severity of illness.
1. Adequate oral or parenteral fluid.
2. Antipyretic.
3. Humidified oxygen.
