BRONCHIAL ASTHMA And Nursing Responsibilities


It is a recurrent pulmonary disorder caused by an allergy, evoked by inhalant,infection,vigorous activity, exposure to cold or emotional tension.

Clinical manifestation:

Recurrent cough and dyspnoea improved by bronchodilator, not associated with fever except in case of infection.

Responsibility of nurse:

1- Reduce the anxiety of parent.

2- Assist with therapy.

3- Observe and report any toxic manifestation of drug used.

4- Teaching the mother the long term care of asthmatic child.

5- Smaller meals at frequent interval may be less tiring and the child should have adequate rest.

Prognosis: many children cease to have asthmatic attack at puberty.
