ACUTE LARYNGITIS

LARYNGITIS

Refers to infection involving the throat. It is caused by viruses, group A  and B streptococcus,mycosoplasma.

Clinical manifestations:

A gradual onset of fever , anorexia , moderate throat pain , malaise , rhinitis ,

hoarseness of voice.

Complication :

peritonsillar abscess,sinusitis,otitis media, meningitis.

Treatment and responsibility of the nurse:

1- Bed rest.

2- warm saline gargle if old enough.

3- Hot steam inhalation .

4- Isolation precaution for children having streptococcal pharyngitis.

5- Penicillin is given orally for 10 days for streptococcal infection or erythromycin for allergic patients.
